An Introduction to Mastery

To describe myself in as few words as possible: I’m a content creator, a dreamer, and an artist.

Welcome to month one at Full Sail University: an introduction to mastery. For the next twelve months I have been assigned to writing a Mastery Journal. Giving updates on what I've been learning and how my classes are going. Today marks journal entry number one: an introduction to mastery and a behind the scenes view into the entertainment business masters degree program.

I have never been the best at writing, so I apologize in advance for all of the grammar errors. So hold on, because its gonna be a bumpy ride!

It's Gonna Be A Bumpy Ride

Over the next twelve months I plan to learn what it takes to become a master. To be a master there is this theory, or idea, that it take a thousand hours of work to become a true master. So what does it mean to truly become a master? To simply put it, it takes; dedication, passion, and hard work.

One of the first few things I learned in my mastery class is a quote by Mozart, “I am a composer… I neither can nor ought to burry the talent for composition with which God in his goodness has so richly endowed me.”

This quote immediately became one of my favorite quotes, from the class. Because I can relate to it on a whole new level. Although I may not be a composer; I am a content creator, a dreamer, and an artist.

As an artist people will judge you. I have and will continued to be judge, there is nothing I can do about it. I have been told by multiple people in my life, to get my head out of cloud nine, to wake up, and face reality. We can either follow the path that has been already taken, or we can decide to build a new path along the way. I started my journey, and a new path by deciding to become a masters student. For “I neither can nor ought to burry the talent for composition with which God in his goodness has so richly endowed me.”

Over the next few months I plan to become dedicated to being more creative and to develop a business plan. That will eventually help me jump start my career in the entertainment industry. My goal one day is to help inspire others to be creative. Through my business plan, I plan to one day be able to educate others on the creativity and inspiration that this world has to offer. I know that through dedication, passion, and hard work; I can achieve anything that I set my mind to. After all, a dream is just a dream until you decide to turn it into a reality.

So my last piece of masters' student-ly advice is; reach for the stars and don’t let anyone stop you. Even if you have to build the goddamn rocket ship yourself, after all it’s just rocket science.
